What
America needs in Congress is a dedicated, hard working, and compassionate “progressive
cop.” That’s just what the voters of
Florida’s 10th Congressional District have the option to vote for
this fall. Former Orlando Police Chief
Val Demings (D) is running for the US House of Representatives and
has The Progressive Cop’s complete support.
Val has always been a
hard worker who has lived a life dedicated to public service. She is a living example of what a public
servant should be and is an example for all of us in public service to strive to
match. The youngest of seven children, Val
attended Florida State University where she graduated with a Bachelor degree in
Criminology. Afterwards, Val went on to
obtain a Masters in Public Administration from Webster University.
After graduating Val
began work as a social worker and later joined the Orlando Police
Department. She rapidly excelled as a
police officer and detective, climbing the ranks until in 2007 she was named
the Chief of Police; the first woman ever named to the post at the Orlando
Police Department. In her three years as
Chief of Police she proved to be as successful an administrator as she had been
an officer. Under her watch, Orlando
experienced a forty percent decrease in crime and a fifteen percent increase in
domestic violence arrests. Now, in 2012,
Val Demings wants to bring her hard working ways and legacy of success to
Washington DC in an effort to help fix problems in Congress.
Val’s dedication to the
public and to residents of Central Florida cannot be questioned. Val has demonstrated an outstanding ability
to handle issues ranging from crime to maintaining a tax payer funded budget
within the government of a major American city.
Val has long been a
champion of women’s rights and takes a stand in favor of human equality. She will bring progressive values to
Washington that represents common sense and compassion for all of Central
Florida’s residents while looking toward a better future for all Americans. In world where congressional candidates come
from all walks of life and various ideologies, Floridians should count
themselves lucky to have been blessed with such an outstanding candidate to
represent them as Val Demings. She is a
shining example of a “progressive cop” in action.
If you live in Florida's 10th District, Val needs your vote to help bring her work ethic and progressive values to Washington. For those of us outside of Florida's 10th Congressional District, we can help Val by sharing her story and/or by contributing to her campaign at http://www.valdemings.com
